On March 30, 2016, the Harding Club met at the

Italian Center in Poughkeepsie.

As usual, the food, drink and socialization was

outstanding.

The Club was treated to a presentation by

Beth Grafman,

Program Officer for the PJ Library.

The PJ Library provides free children's books on

Jewish topics to families, locally, nationally and worldwide.

As a result of this presentation, and after much

discussion, the Harding Club

voted to contribute $10,000 annually, for the next

three years, as a partner with the Federation, to this very

worthwhile cause.

On March 9 he group was treated to an extremely

insightful presentation by Bruce Judson

on the causes and problems of the unprecedented

disparities in income distribution in the U.S. today.

Bruce pointed out very clearly that the frustration felt

today, caused by this disparity in income distribution,

is directly linked to the popularity of out of the

mainstream presidential candidates like Donald Trump

and Bernie Sanders.

It was a most interesting and informative talk.

A highlight of the year happened on December 9, when

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro

spoke at our meeting.

The meeting took place at the Hyde Park Cappola's Italian

restaurant.  A feast of fine Italian food was followed by a

special talk in which a very busy County Executive spoke on

a wide variety of topics affecting every county resident.

He reported that economic growth in the county is on the

upswing, and he claimed, with no bias, that his policies are

largely responsible for that growth.

HERE'S A RUNDOWN OF SOME RECENT EVENTS:

Elaine Hayes, Executive Director of the

Mount Gulian Historic Site,

spoke at the September 30, 2015 meeting.

The site has been in use since the Revolutionary War.

All were thrilled to see Martin dressed in a uniform from

the era, wielding a musket!!

The October 15, 2015 meeting, held at the Italian Center,

featured Dr. Alison Nohara, a neurosurgeon  from

Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

In a popular husband and wife event, she spoke on

new procedures to treat stroke patients.

Rabbi Eliazar Langer of the Congregtion Schomre Israel

gave the club an inspiring presentation at the

September 9, 2015, meeting, which was held at the

Milanese.

At the November 4, 2015, meeting,

Julie and David Gorlewski,

Professors of Education at

SUNY New Paltz, discussed the Common

Core controversy. Their talk was

titled,"Knowledge,Standards, and

Standardization:

Complicating the Common Core."

A very lively discussion about this

very relevant topic followed their

talk.

On November 18, member Les Muldodrf

spoke about Jewish traditions

concerning  Chevra Kaddisha.
